ExpressLRS

An open-source radio-control link used for drone and FPV communication.

ExpressLRS is an open-source radio-control link used for drone and FPV communication. It connects a ground transmitter to an airborne receiver and is designed for low latency, dependable control, and long range. Because it is open source, the protocol and firmware can be inspected, tuned, and adapted by builders instead of being locked to one vendor.

In cyber security, ExpressLRS matters because it is part of the trust and availability chain for a flying system. If the link is misconfigured, jammed, or disrupted by poor antenna placement or weak RF margins, the drone can lose control or trigger failsafes. Attackers may try radio interference, spoofing, or denial of service against weak links, while defenders focus on unique binding, correct power settings, packet rates, and robust receiver placement. The lesson is that wireless control security depends on the whole RF setup, not just the transmitter’s output rating.
