E-reporting

Automated or near-real-time submission of transaction data for compliance.

E-reporting is the automated or near-real-time submission of transaction data to a regulator or tax authority for compliance. Instead of waiting for a periodic filing, businesses send structured invoice, sales, or payment data through integrated systems that validate, transform, and transmit records as part of normal operations. This makes reporting faster and more accurate, but it also turns the reporting pipeline into a security-sensitive asset.

In cyber security, E-reporting matters because attackers may target the data before it is submitted, the accounts used to submit it, or the interfaces that connect finance systems to external platforms. A compromised workflow can hide fraudulent transactions, alter tax records, or cause compliance failures. Defenses include strong identity controls, segregation of duties, validation rules, logging, tamper-evident audit trails, and secure API integration. In practice, E-reporting should be treated like critical infrastructure: if the data or submission path is manipulated, both compliance and trust can fail.
