In French healthcare, DPI stands for dossier patient informatisé, the centralized electronic system used to store and manage patient records. It typically brings together clinical notes, test results, prescriptions, and administrative data so care teams can work from a shared source of truth.
From a cybersecurity perspective, a DPI is a high-value target because it concentrates sensitive health data in one place. If remote access is weak, authentication is poorly enforced, or permissions are too broad, a single compromised account can expose large volumes of records. Defenders reduce that risk with strong login controls such as multi-factor authentication, VPN access for external connections, least-privilege authorization, logging, and alerting for unusual access patterns. In attacks, DPIs are often abused through stolen credentials or over-permissioned accounts rather than exotic malware, which makes identity security and monitoring essential.
