Domestic sourcing

Buying inputs from U.S. sources, often to meet policy or procurement requirements.

Domestic sourcing means buying inputs, parts, or materials from suppliers in the United States. In government and defense procurement, it is often used to satisfy policy requirements, reduce dependency on foreign supply chains, and improve visibility into where a component came from.

In cybersecurity, domestic sourcing matters because supply-chain trust is part of system security. Hardware and software depend on many sub-tier suppliers, and weak provenance can let counterfeit, substituted, or tampered components reach sensitive programs. Domestic sourcing is not a complete defense, but it can make vetting, traceability, and audit checks easier. Security teams use sourcing records, supplier attestations, and chain-of-custody documentation to verify that critical inputs meet procurement rules and to spot hidden risk before deployment.
