A digital perk is a non-cash benefit that is delivered and managed through an app or platform. Examples include lounge access, free shipping, discounts, upgrades, or bundled travel services. Unlike a simple marketing offer, a digital perk is usually tied to identity, subscription tier, or account status, and the platform decides when the benefit is available.
In cyber security, digital perks matter because they are controlled by access-control logic. Attackers may try to steal accounts, abuse promo APIs, tamper with entitlement data, or replay tokens to claim benefits they should not have. Defenses focus on strong authentication, server-side entitlement checks, signed or short-lived access tokens, logging, and fast revocation. When perks are validated across partner systems, both sides must agree on who is eligible, or users can face fraud, confusion, or unauthorized access.
