A developer server is a system used to build, test, store, or deploy software. It may host source code, CI/CD pipelines, package repositories, configuration files, secrets, signing keys, or access tokens. Because it sits close to the software supply chain, a compromise can expose code and credentials, or let an attacker modify builds and push malicious updates.
In cyber security, developer servers matter because they are high-value targets and often trusted by other systems. Attackers may look for weak authentication, exposed remote access, leaked secrets, or misconfigured development tools. Defenders protect these systems with least privilege, strong authentication, segmentation, secret management, logging, and integrity checks so that a single compromise does not turn into broader access across the environment.
