Derivati

Financial contracts whose value depends on an underlying event or asset.

Derivatives are financial contracts whose value is tied to an underlying asset, index, rate, or event. The contract itself is not the thing being priced; it is a claim whose payoff changes when the referenced input changes. Common examples include options, futures, and event-based contracts.

In cyber security, derivatives matter because the systems that create, price, and settle them depend on trusted data and reliable access control. Attackers may target trading platforms, settlement engines, or market-data feeds to steal funds, alter prices, or disrupt execution. In prediction-market style products, the same risk applies to the event oracle: if the source of truth is spoofed or tampered with, the contract can settle incorrectly. Defenders protect these systems with strong authentication, segregated privileges, tamper-evident logs, feed validation, and monitoring for account takeover, manipulation, and insider abuse.
