Deep-space communications are the systems and protocols used to move data between spacecraft, relay assets, and Earth across extremely long distances. Signals are weak, propagation delay is large, and contact windows can be limited, so these links depend on careful scheduling, strong error correction, store-and-forward relays, and precise timing.
In cyber security, deep-space communications matter because long delay makes real-time validation difficult and recovery slow. Operators must protect command links with authentication, integrity checks, and redundancy so attackers cannot spoof commands, replay old traffic, or disrupt service through jamming or relay compromise. Defense also includes monitoring the radio spectrum, hardening ground stations, and designing fallback paths so a single link or node does not become a critical point of failure.
