Decision paralysis is delayed or stalled decision-making caused by too many options, conflicting signals, or too much uncertainty. In cyber security, it often appears when analysts, responders, or managers are flooded with alerts, reports, or AI-generated recommendations faster than they can verify them.
This matters because attackers benefit when defenders hesitate. A security team facing dozens of plausible hypotheses may miss the real intrusion, delay containment, or approve a weak action simply to keep moving. Defenders reduce this risk by prioritizing signals, using clear response playbooks, and limiting low-value inputs. In AI-heavy workflows, decision paralysis can also happen when generated drafts or findings look convincing but still require human validation, turning review into the real bottleneck.
