DDR5

a memory standard whose traffic can become a target when physical access is available.

DDR5 is a modern Double Data Rate memory standard used in servers and personal computers. It defines how the CPU, memory controller, and DRAM chips exchange data at high speed. In security discussions, DDR5 matters because memory traffic is part of the machine’s trusted hardware path: if an attacker can physically access the system, they may try to interfere with signals or observe data moving between components.

In real attacks, DDR5 can become a target when the goal is not to break software, but to manipulate memory hardware from outside the operating system. That can undermine protections that depend on memory confidentiality, including confidential computing platforms. Defenders reduce this risk with strong physical security, tamper-resistant server design, hardware monitoring, and encryption features where available. In short, DDR5 itself is not a vulnerability, but it is a critical layer that attackers may abuse if they can reach the machine.
