Data continuity

the preservation of accurate information from one lifecycle stage to the next.

Data continuity is the preservation of accurate information as it moves from one lifecycle stage to the next. In cyber security, it means a record stays complete, consistent, and trustworthy while passing between systems, organizations, and update cycles. The goal is not just to store data, but to keep its meaning and integrity intact over time.

It matters because attackers and operational failures often exploit gaps between stages: a forged update, a mismatched schema, a lost audit trail, or a stale record can all create false trust. In industrial systems, product passports and similar identity layers depend on continuity so that design, production, logistics, use, and recovery teams see the same object history. Defenders protect it with strong authentication, authorization, version control, validation rules, and audit logs. Without data continuity, traceability weakens and even legitimate data can drift into conflicting versions.
