Cypher is Neo4j’s declarative query language for reading, creating, updating, and deleting data in a graph database. It uses patterns and predicates to describe nodes, relationships, and conditions, which makes it well suited for complex connected-data queries.
In security-sensitive applications, Cypher matters because it often sits behind an API or policy layer. If authorization rules are translated incorrectly into Cypher, a user may reach data or mutations they should not see or perform. Attackers look for these translation gaps to bypass filters, while defenders audit generated queries, test denied paths, and verify that schema rules such as authentication and authorization survive the conversion from application logic to database execution.
