Cybersecurity posture

The overall strength and readiness of an organization's defenses.

Cybersecurity posture is the overall strength and readiness of an organization's defenses. It reflects how well people, processes, and tools are configured to prevent, detect, and respond to threats. A strong posture usually includes good asset visibility, timely patching, access control, logging, incident response planning, and clear escalation paths.

This term matters because attackers often succeed by finding weak links between controls, not by breaking a single tool. In real incidents, a poor posture may show up as delayed detection, incomplete monitoring, weak credentials, or teams that cannot act quickly on alerts. In defense, improving cybersecurity posture means reducing those gaps so security controls work together as a system. It is not one product or one team; it is the organization's total ability to resist, contain, and recover from attack.
