Credential protection

Controls that reduce the chance that passwords, keys, or tokens are exposed or reused unsafely.

Credential protection is the set of controls used to keep passwords, API keys, private keys, and access tokens from being exposed, copied, or reused in unsafe ways. Good protection includes secure storage, encryption at rest, secrets vaults, short-lived tokens, strict scope limits, rotation, and redaction from logs, prompts, and debug output.

It matters because stolen credentials often give attackers direct access without needing malware or exploitation. In real attacks, secrets can be phished, scraped from browser sessions, leaked through logs, or reused after a breach. Defenders reduce that risk by isolating credentials per service, using multi-factor authentication, limiting token lifetime, and separating user sessions from automation state. In AI agent platforms, credential protection is critical because browser automation and connected services can accidentally expose secrets if trust boundaries are weak.
