Continuous discovery is the practice of finding and fixing vulnerabilities all the time, not on a quarterly or annual schedule. It combines asset inventory, vulnerability scanning, configuration review, and remediation tracking so defenders can see what changed before attackers do. In fast-moving environments, especially cloud and AI infrastructure, new services, dependencies, and permissions can appear daily, making old scan reports stale almost immediately.
This matters because attackers often win through delay, not novelty. A missed patch, exposed service, or weak identity setting can be enough if it remains unfixed long enough. Continuous discovery shortens the window between exposure and containment by feeding security teams near-real-time data for triage, patching, and rollback. In defense, it is often paired with automation, exposure management, and ticketing workflows so issues are not only found but actually remediated.
