Connector/C is MariaDB’s C/C++ client library for applications that need to talk to a MariaDB or MySQL server. It provides the code that handles connections, authentication, queries, result parsing, and error handling, so developers do not need to implement the database protocol themselves.
In security terms, Connector/C matters because it often sits inside applications, agents, and administration tools, not just on the database host. A flaw in the library can expose many programs at once, especially if it is bundled into containers or shipped through operating-system packages. Attackers may target client libraries to steal credentials, trigger unsafe parsing, or reach code execution in software that trusts database inputs. Defenders should track Connector/C versions alongside server updates, because patching the database daemon alone may leave an embedded client layer vulnerable.
