Commercial plan name

A marketing label used to package a service offer, which may not describe technical details on its own.

A commercial plan name is the marketing label used to sell a service, product, or subscription. It is meant to be memorable and attractive, not technically precise. In telecom, cloud, and software services, the name may hide important differences in eligibility, speed limits, logging, access controls, or billing rules. The label tells you what the offer is called; it does not tell you how it behaves.

In cyber security, this matters because attackers often copy commercial plan names in phishing pages, fake invoices, or support scams to look legitimate. Defenders also need to compare the branded name against the real product identifier, contract terms, and configuration details before approving purchases or changes. Treat the name as a clue, not proof: security decisions should rely on the underlying features, permissions, and policy settings, not on the marketing wrapper.
