Collaboration is shared work between people or teams, usually enabled by chat apps, video meetings, document sharing, task boards, or immersive workspaces. In cyber security, collaboration matters because it concentrates communication, files, and decisions in a small number of platforms that attackers can target.
Real attacks often use collaboration tools for phishing, account takeover, or social engineering: a fake message in a team channel, a malicious link in a shared document, or a compromised account used to spread fraudulent requests. Defenders also rely on collaboration tools, so they need strong authentication, least-privilege access, logging, retention rules, and controls for external sharing. When collaboration is secure, teams can work quickly without exposing data, identities, or internal workflows.
