Cloud save workflow

the sequence of steps an app uses to move a file into online storage.

A cloud save workflow is the sequence of steps an application uses to move a file from the local device into online storage. Many apps do not upload directly in one motion: they may create a temporary copy, convert the file, cache metadata, sync changes, and then confirm the cloud version is current. This matters in cyber security because sensitive data can exist on the endpoint longer than users expect, even when the final destination is a cloud service.

Attackers may abuse weak cloud save workflows by intercepting temporary files, stealing cached content, or exploiting poor cleanup after sync failures. Defenders watch these workflows to understand where data is staged, how long artifacts persist, and whether logs show unexpected local writes during cloud operations. In practice, good controls include endpoint monitoring, least-privilege access to cache locations, encryption, and clear retention rules for temporary files.
