A cloud-based solution is a service delivered through shared cloud infrastructure instead of being installed and run only on local hardware. Users reach it over the network, while the provider operates the underlying servers, storage, and software.
In cyber security, cloud-based solutions matter because they can centralize policy, logging, updates, and access control across many users and devices. That makes them useful for remote work, distributed apps, and security models such as SASE, where inspection and enforcement follow the traffic rather than a fixed office perimeter. They also change the attack surface: defenders must protect cloud accounts, APIs, configuration settings, and identity controls, while attackers may target misconfigurations, stolen credentials, or exposed management interfaces. Used well, cloud delivery can improve visibility and consistency; used poorly, it can spread the same security mistakes across many systems at once.
