ClickFix CAPTCHA

a fake verification prompt used to trigger harmful user interaction.

ClickFix CAPTCHA is a fake verification prompt designed to make a user perform an unsafe action. It imitates a normal CAPTCHA or “prove you are human” screen, but the real goal is to push the victim into clicking, copying, pasting, entering data, or running a command that supports malware delivery, credential theft, or other abuse.

This matters because CAPTCHA prompts are familiar and usually trusted, so attackers can hide malicious steps inside an ordinary-looking web interaction. In real attacks, a compromised site or phishing page may display a convincing verification flow that leads to a fake login, a file download, or a browser-based instruction sequence. Defenders should treat unexpected verification prompts as suspicious, especially when they appear on pages that should not require unusual actions. Security teams can reduce risk with user awareness, website integrity monitoring, browser protections, and strong authentication that limits the value of stolen credentials.
