Classical computer

a standard computer built on conventional binary processing.

A classical computer is a standard digital computer that processes information in binary bits, using conventional logic gates and software stacks. It includes desktops, servers, laptops, phones, and cloud machines that perform the vast majority of everyday computing. In contrast to experimental systems such as quantum computers, classical computers are predictable, mature, and widely deployable.

In cyber security, classical computers matter because attackers and defenders both rely on them for almost everything: running malware, scanning networks, cracking weak passwords, analyzing logs, enforcing endpoint protection, and hosting security tools. They are also the systems most organizations must harden, patch, monitor, and back up. Even when new hardware ideas are discussed, real attacks and defenses usually happen on classical infrastructure, where limits such as CPU speed, memory, and storage shape what security teams can detect or stop.
