Centralized enforcement

The use of management tools to apply the same security policy across many endpoints.

Centralized enforcement is the use of a management platform to apply the same security policy across many endpoints, such as laptops, desktops, and mobile devices. Instead of configuring each system by hand, administrators define a policy once and push it to the fleet. This is common for endpoint encryption, where tools like BitLocker or FileVault can be required, checked, and reported from one control plane.

It matters because security only works at scale when it is consistent. Centralized enforcement helps defenders make encryption mandatory, verify compliance, and store recovery keys in a managed escrow system. It also creates operational risk: if an attacker compromises the management console or recovery process, they may be able to weaken protection or steal sensitive keys. In real defenses, teams use access control, auditing, and testing to make sure policy enforcement is reliable without becoming a single point of failure.
