A cadastre is a public register of land, property, boundaries, and ownership-related records. Governments, courts, and administrative offices use it to verify who owns a parcel, what rights are attached to it, and how a property can be transferred or taxed.
In cyber security, cadastral systems are important because they support legal and financial work, so even a temporary outage can stop property checks, filings, and transactions. Attackers may target them with ransomware or other disruptions to block access, damage trust in records, or pressure administrators. Defenders focus on availability and integrity: strong backups, offline recovery copies, access control, logging, and tested restore procedures help keep the register usable even during an incident.
