bSDD, short for the buildingSMART Data Dictionary, is a shared construction vocabulary that defines terms, properties, and relationships in a consistent way. Instead of each BIM or project tool using its own label for the same concept, bSDD gives teams a common reference for names, units, and meanings. That helps design, procurement, and field systems exchange information without ambiguity.
From a cyber security perspective, bSDD matters because inconsistent data definitions create integrity risk. If systems disagree about what a field means, validation breaks down, logs become harder to trust, and malicious or accidental changes can slip through as "normal" data. Defenders use bSDD-style dictionaries to enforce schema validation, improve interoperability, and reduce unsafe manual mapping between platforms. In real environments, it appears whenever teams standardize object properties, check imported models, or automate quality control across connected construction systems.
