Brand safety is the practice of keeping a company’s messaging, ads, and placements away from misleading, offensive, or harmful associations. In cybersecurity, it matters because trust is part of the product: buyers often judge vendors by where they appear, what they sponsor, and how they present themselves. A secure company can still lose credibility if its content is placed beside scams, extremist material, low-quality pages, or impersonation attempts.
Brand safety shows up in both attack and defense. Attackers may copy a well-known brand’s look and language to make phishing pages, fake invoices, or social-media posts seem legitimate. Defenders use brand-safety controls to reduce that risk, including approved publishing channels, ad-placement filters, domain monitoring, and takedown workflows for impersonation. For security teams, brand safety is not just a marketing concern: it helps protect users from deception and helps buyers separate technical evidence from polished but unreliable promotion.
