Automated patching is the use of software, including AI systems, to generate code fixes for vulnerabilities and to validate that those fixes work. Instead of only identifying a flaw, the tool helps draft a repair and checks whether the change appears safe before deployment.
In cyber security, this matters because the delay between finding a vulnerability and releasing a patch is often the period of highest risk. Attackers regularly target that gap, especially after a weakness becomes public. Automated patching can speed response, reduce manual coding effort, and help defenders keep up with large codebases. In practice, it still needs human oversight, regression testing, staged rollout, and rollback plans. A machine-generated patch that breaks adjacent logic or misses the root cause can create a new security problem, so validation is as important as generation.
