AutoIt

A legitimate Windows automation language that attackers can abuse to run scripted malicious logic.

AutoIt is a legitimate Windows automation language and interpreter used to script repetitive tasks such as file handling, window control, and software installation. Because it can launch programs, read files, and execute logic with little overhead, it is also attractive to attackers who want a lightweight way to stage malware or automate post-exploitation steps.

In real attacks, AutoIt scripts may deliver payloads, decrypt hidden data, start another malware component, or act as a loader that keeps the final executable out of sight until runtime. Defenders care about AutoIt because the interpreter itself is often trusted and may already exist on a system, which can make script-based abuse blend into normal administration. Security teams look for suspicious script content, unusual child processes launched by the interpreter, encoded blobs, and AutoIt activity on hosts that do not normally use it.
