Authorized views are a warehouse security feature that lets users query a controlled view of data without granting them direct access to the underlying source tables. The view can filter rows, select only approved columns, or apply transformations such as masking or aggregation. This makes it easier to share data for analytics while keeping sensitive records, identifiers, and internal logic protected.
In cyber security, authorized views matter because they reduce the blast radius of data access and support least privilege. They are often used to separate business users from raw datasets, while still allowing reporting, billing, or monitoring workflows to run. Defenders rely on them to preserve auditability and to prevent copy-out into unmanaged spreadsheets. Attackers may try to bypass them by abusing overly broad permissions, querying the base tables directly, or exploiting weak view ownership and grant settings. Properly configured, authorized views help keep the authoritative data in one place and the exposure surface tightly controlled.
