Authorization controls are rules that determine which users, devices, or terminals may access a service and what they are allowed to do. They typically operate after identity is established, using permissions, policies, or approved-device lists to allow or deny connections.
In cybersecurity, these controls limit unauthorized access and help administrators manage service availability. For example, a satellite network may permit only registered terminals or approved users to connect, with policies that restrict when or where a terminal can operate. A denied connection may result from a legitimate policy or configuration change, not necessarily an attack. Logs and clear status reporting help distinguish administrative restrictions from technical failures or hostile interference.
