Asset dependency

The changing relationship between multiple financial instruments.

Asset dependency is the changing relationship between financial instruments: when one asset moves, others may move with it, lag behind it, or decouple entirely. These relationships are not fixed. They shift with market regime, volatility, liquidity, and news, so a model trained on old correlations can quickly become stale.

In cyber security, dependency thinking matters because attackers and defenders rarely deal with isolated systems. A compromise in one service can affect identity systems, payment flows, logging, or cloud workloads that depend on it. Defenders use dependency maps and telemetry to spot blast radius, prioritize controls, and detect abnormal cross-asset behavior. Attackers may exploit these links by targeting the weakest connected asset first, then moving laterally through trusted paths. Monitoring changing dependencies helps both risk analytics and security operations stay aligned with reality.
