Artificial gravity

the effect of simulating gravity through motion, usually by rotation.

Artificial gravity is the effect of simulating gravity through motion, usually by rotation. In a spinning habitat, centrifugal force pushes occupants outward so they feel weight against the floor, reducing problems such as muscle loss, bone loss, and motion sickness during long missions. It is a classic idea in orbital station design because it makes a hostile environment more livable without relying on a true planet-like gravity field.

In cyber security, artificial gravity matters because it depends on tightly controlled motors, sensors, software, and command systems. If an attacker can tamper with rotation control, false sensor data, or remote telemetry, they may cause unsafe spin rates, structural stress, or loss of habitability. Defenses include authenticated control commands, segmented networks, anomaly detection, and fail-safe limits that keep rotation within safe bounds. For cyber-physical systems, the lesson is simple: when software helps create the environment people breathe and move in, protecting that software becomes a safety requirement.
