An arcade topper is a decorative or functional unit mounted above an arcade-style machine, often used for branding, lighting, display art, or status information. In retro builds, it helps define the machine’s silhouette and can contain electronics such as LEDs, panels, or small screens.
In cyber security, the term matters because physical design affects what can be hidden, exposed, or tampered with. A topper can conceal wiring, sensors, cameras, or even rogue hardware, so defenders should inspect it during physical security checks. Attackers may also use visible top-mounted components to distract from modified internals or to add convincing but untrusted peripherals. In secure environments, any added topper should be treated as part of the attack surface and verified like the rest of the device.
