APR is an Italian abbreviation for Sistemi Aeromobili a Pilotaggio Remoto, meaning remote-piloted aircraft systems. It refers to the full drone capability, not just the aircraft: the airframe, remote control link, software, sensors, ground station, and the people operating them. In security discussions, APR is useful because it frames drones as integrated systems with aviation, communications, and digital control components.
That matters in cyber security because an APR can be weakened by more than physical damage. Attackers may target operator accounts, mission-planning tools, firmware, command links, or stored imagery and telemetry. Defenders use access control, authenticated command channels, configuration management, logging, and operator training to reduce risk. In practice, APR security is about keeping the aircraft, the control environment, and the data flow trustworthy.
