Apple Threat Notification

A high-confidence alert that warns a user of possible targeting by advanced spyware.

An Apple Threat Notification is a high-confidence alert sent to selected iPhone users when Apple’s threat intelligence suggests the device may be targeted by advanced spyware, often mercenary spyware. It is not a routine warning and it does not prove the phone is already compromised. Instead, it signals elevated risk and tells the user to treat the device as potentially under active surveillance.

This matters because targeted mobile attacks are often stealthy and hard to confirm from the device alone. In defense, the notification acts as a triage signal: verify the alert inside the Apple Account area, update the operating system, review accounts and connected devices, and consider enabling Lockdown Mode. Attackers who use sophisticated spyware may exploit multiple weaknesses, so the alert is useful even when it arrives after suspicious activity. It helps defenders focus on hardening and investigation before more access is gained.
