App-store controls

Review and scanning systems used to block harmful mobile apps before release.

App-store controls are the review, scanning, and policy checks used by mobile platforms to block harmful apps before they are published. They typically combine automated malware detection, static analysis of code and permissions, metadata review, and sometimes human review to catch obvious abuse, policy violations, or known malicious behavior.

They matter because the app store is often the first trust checkpoint for mobile users. In attacks, criminals try to evade these controls by disguising malware as a harmless app, using a dropper, or delaying the real payload until after installation. Defenders respond by looking beyond the submission package and monitoring runtime behavior, network fetches, and suspicious secondary code downloads. App-store controls reduce risk, but they are only one layer of defense; they can miss staged attacks that reveal danger only after the app is running.
