Aluminum

A lightweight metal often used when low weight and easy forming are important.

Aluminum is a lightweight, easy-to-form metal widely used for device housings, server chassis, heat sinks, and shielded enclosures. In security work, the material matters because it affects physical durability, thermal control, and electromagnetic behavior. A well-designed aluminum shell can make hardware harder to open quietly, help dissipate heat from secure components, and reduce unwanted RF leakage when grounded properly.

In real attacks, aluminum parts are often targeted with cutting, drilling, or prying to expose ports, storage, or debug headers. In defenses, engineers use thicker panels, tamper-evident seals, and conductive bonding to make access more obvious and to preserve shielding continuity. Aluminum is not a security control by itself, but its form, thickness, coating, and fit can strengthen or weaken the protection around a system.
