AI output risk

The possibility that an AI system produces inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable results.

AI output risk is the possibility that an AI system produces results that are inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or unsuitable for their intended use. It can arise from limitations in training data, ambiguous prompts, model errors, or a mismatch between the system’s capabilities and the task.

In cyber security and business operations, an unchecked AI result could lead to flawed decisions, unsafe code, incorrect customer communications, or exposure of sensitive information. Organizations can reduce this risk by reviewing outputs before acting on or publishing them, limiting access to sensitive data, documenting how AI is used, and assigning clear human oversight. Contracts may allocate responsibility for AI-generated content, but operational review remains important because contractual terms do not make an output accurate or safe.
