AI control plane

The policy and management layer that helps govern how AI systems, agents, and tools are used.

An AI control plane is the policy and management layer that governs how AI systems, agents, and connected tools are allowed to act. It is where defenders define permissions, approval steps, logging, rate limits, and blocking rules for model output, tool use, and data access. In practice, it sits above the model itself and decides what the AI can do, not just what it can say.

This matters because modern AI is often embedded in workflows that can search data, trigger code, open tickets, or call external services. If an attacker can influence prompts, agent instructions, or tool inputs, the control plane is one of the main places to stop unsafe actions before they execute. Defenders use it to enforce least privilege, prevent prompt abuse, and create audit trails. If the control plane is weak, an AI system may still generate useful text but fail as a secure enterprise control point.
