Administrative login

A privileged account that can change settings, deploy actions, or control other devices.

An administrative login is a privileged account used to manage systems, services, or devices. Unlike a normal user account, it can change settings, deploy software or scripts, approve policy changes, and control other endpoints from a central console.

In cyber security, this account type is a high-value target because compromise can give an attacker broad control with one set of credentials. Attackers may use stolen administrative logins to push malicious updates, disable protections, create persistence, or move from one managed device to many. Defenders reduce this risk with least privilege, separate admin accounts, multi-factor authentication, strong password policies, and tight logging. Unusual administrative logins, especially from new locations or at odd times, are a common warning sign of abuse.
