Unibody refers to a construction technique where the external casing or frame of a device, such as a laptop or smartphone, is made from a single piece of material, typically aluminum or magnesium. This design offers increased durability, a sleek appearance, and often reduces device weight. However, unibody construction can complicate repairs and upgrades, as internal components are less accessible compared to modular designs. In cybersecurity, unibody devices may present challenges for physical security assessments, tampering detection, or forensic investigations, as opening the device without specialized tools can be difficult or may damage the casing.
