The Topological Naming Problem is a challenge in computer-aided design (CAD) where changes to a model - such as editing or reshaping parts - can cause features or elements to lose their assigned names or identities. This happens because the software tracks features based on their position or order, not their function or purpose. As a result, when the model's topology changes, references to specific faces, edges, or points can break, leading to errors or lost design intent. This issue complicates model editing, automation, and collaboration, making it harder to maintain consistent and reliable CAD designs over time.
