A symbolic link (symlink) is a special type of file in a file system that acts as a shortcut, pointing to another file or directory. When you access a symlink, the operating system automatically redirects you to the target location. Symlinks are commonly used to organize files, avoid duplication, and simplify file management. However, they can also pose security risks if attackers create malicious symlinks to trick users or programs into accessing unintended files or directories.
