A switching regulator is an electronic device that efficiently converts one voltage level to another using high-speed switches, inductors, and capacitors. Unlike linear regulators, which dissipate excess energy as heat, switching regulators rapidly turn the current on and off, storing and releasing energy through magnetic and electric fields. This process allows for much higher efficiency, especially when there is a significant difference between input and output voltages. Switching regulators are commonly found in power supplies for computers, networking devices, and other electronics where energy efficiency is critical. In cybersecurity, stable and efficient power delivery helps maintain the reliability and security of sensitive electronic equipment.
