Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) are legal agreements developed by the European Commission to ensure adequate protection for personal data transferred from the European Union (EU) to countries outside the EU that do not have equivalent data protection laws. SCCs set out contractual obligations for data exporters and importers, requiring them to safeguard EU citizens' data privacy and security. Organizations use SCCs to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) when transferring data internationally. These clauses help mitigate legal risks and ensure that data subjects’ rights are protected, even when data leaves the EU. SCCs are widely used by companies engaging in cross-border data processing activities.
