Pseudonimization is a data protection technique where personally identifiable information (PII) within a dataset is replaced with artificial identifiers or pseudonyms. This process helps minimize privacy risks by making it more difficult to link data to specific individuals without additional information. Pseudonimization is widely used in cybersecurity and compliance with regulations such as the GDPR, as it allows organizations to process data for analysis or research while protecting user privacy. However, pseudonimization does not make data completely anonymous, since re-identification is possible if the pseudonym mapping is accessible.
