PLA, or Polylactic Acid, is a biodegradable thermoplastic derived from renewable resources like corn starch or sugarcane. While PLA is primarily known as a material used in 3D printing, it is also relevant in cybersecurity contexts when discussing the physical security of devices. For example, hardware security researchers may use PLA to 3D print enclosures or components for testing hardware vulnerabilities, creating tamper-evident seals, or prototyping secure device housings. PLA’s popularity stems from its ease of use, low toxicity, and environmentally friendly properties. However, it is not suitable for high-temperature applications or environments requiring high durability.
