In cybersecurity, 'Pig' refers to the 'Pig Butchering' scam (Chinese: sha zhu pan). This is a sophisticated social engineering fraud where scammers build trust with victims over time, often through fake romantic relationships or investment opportunities. The victim is 'fattened up' with attention and false promises, then manipulated into investing large sums of money into fraudulent schemes, typically involving cryptocurrency or fake trading platforms. Once the scammer believes the victim has invested as much as possible, they disappear with the funds, leaving the victim with significant financial losses. Pig butchering scams are increasingly common and difficult to detect due to their personalized approach and emotional manipulation.
