A persistent downloader is a type of malicious software designed to remain active on a compromised system, continuously connecting to an attacker's remote server to download and install additional malware or updates. Unlike one-time downloaders, persistent downloaders ensure ongoing access for attackers by regularly checking for and retrieving new malicious payloads, tools, or updates. This persistence allows threat actors to adapt their attacks, evade detection, and maintain long-term control over the infected device. Persistent downloaders are commonly distributed through phishing emails, malicious websites, or bundled with other malware, and pose a significant threat to both individuals and organizations by facilitating repeated infections and enabling further exploitation.
