Nonconsensual intimate imagery refers to images or videos depicting a person in a sexual or private context that are created, shared, or distributed without that person’s explicit consent. This can include photos or recordings taken with or without the subject’s knowledge, as well as material originally shared consensually but later distributed without permission. Such actions can have severe emotional, psychological, and reputational consequences for victims. This form of abuse is often referred to as 'revenge porn' but can occur in many contexts beyond personal relationships. Laws and regulations in many jurisdictions now specifically address and penalize the creation or distribution of nonconsensual intimate imagery.
